Council Must Not Risk Capping Warn Lib Dems

Liberal Democrat Councillors have warned the city council that it risks being capped if it sets a double figure council tax increase.

Commenting, Group Leader, Paul Elgood said:

"There are no easy solutions and no easy answers in this year's budget. What councillors must ensure is that they deliver the best budget possible for residents under these circumstances."

"With a council tax looking likely to be around 14% or 15%, capping is now a very real prospect which must be avoided at all costs as it will bring the council to a standstill."

"At the moment the kind of figures being talked about for the council tax increase could well lead to the council being capped, this would be disastrous for the smooth running of the council."
